Time to Read

A literacy support programme for children in 2nd class which aims to:

  • Increase enjoyment of reading.
  • Increase confidence in reading.
  • Improve and encourage self-discovery.
  • Improve fluency and comprehension when reading.

What:

Paired reading programme where volunteer provides one-to-one support to 2nd class primary school pupil over 16 weeks.

How:

Each volunteer spends 1 hour per week reading with 2 children. Volunteers are paired with a buddy to share the reading weeks equally.

Who:

8-14 volunteers who want to share their love of reading and make a difference in the local community.

Where:

Weekly reading sessions take place at the school PLUS a visit to a local library and the volunteer’s workplace.
