Time to Read
A nationwide literacy support programme for children in 2nd class in DEIS schools delivered by corporate volunteers which aims to:
- Increase enjoyment of reading.
- Increase confidence in reading.
- Improve and encourage self-discovery.
- Improve fluency and comprehension when reading.
What:
BITCI recruits corporate volunteers and pairs them with their local DEIS primary school. The corporate volunteers are paired with a 2nd class primary school pupils and provides one-to-one reading support to pupils over 16 weeks.
How:
BITCI trains and supports the corporate volunteers and provides all the necessary equipment. Each corporate volunteer spends 1 hour per week reading with 2 children. Corporate volunteers are paired with a buddy to share the reading weeks equally.
Who:
8-14 corporate volunteers who want to share their love of reading and make a difference in the local community.
Where:
Weekly reading sessions take place at the school PLUS a visit to a local library and the corporate volunteer’s workplace.
