Summer Work Placement Programme
This programme offers students in Dublin’s North East Inner City Schools a post school Summer Work Placement (SWPP) Internship in financial services companies for 6-8 weeks. This is aimed at those who have just completed the Leaving Certificate.
The programme provides the opportunity for students from DEIS schools to experience a workplace and working world, to learn from corporate volunteers and to build networks during meaningful work experience. It supports the participating companies’ Diversity and Inclusion initiatives. It provides corporate volunteers with a meaningful opportunity to give something back.
Full support is provided for corporate volunteers, including student recruiting, interviewing and training and ongoing support to the participating companies and students.
“I gained an insight into the work of construction and the lifecycle of buildings. I got to see what work is like, including working hours. This experience will certainly prepare me for my future work life in terms of time management. Many of my relatives work within the construction industry, whether they’re builders, electricians, or painters, yet none of them are women. This is another factor for why I would love to get involved within the industry.”
Paula’s story
In 2023 IPUT Real Estate Dublin participated in SWPP and hired Paula, who was a student at Marino College Secondary School. Paula’s parents moved from Poland in the hope of a better life for Paula and her sister. They were keen for their daughters to grow up speaking English. Paula’s long-term goal was to study engineering. Paula worked for six weeks at IPUT Real Estate Dublin. She got to experience the internal workings of the company by rotating between departments. Paula went on construction site visits, visited properties, and completed projects.
Paula is now studying Engineering. She has maintained contact with IPUT Real Estate Dublin and has completed some project work for them.
