Classrooms to Careers: Social Impact in Action

Business in the Community Ireland (BITCI) produced a social impact report to reflect on the effectiveness its social inclusion programmes over the last 25 years. BITCI’s social inclusion programmes connect companies with schools in disadvantaged areas, jobseekers distanced from the labour market, and underserved communities to create real, measurable change, helping young people to access opportunity and reach their potential and supporting jobseekers to gain meaningful work.

Linda O’Sullivan, BITCI Head of Social Inclusion said “Through a series of stories from the participants it is clear their participation in these programmes has led to lives being changed, barriers broken, and potential realised. The ripple effect is significant as the lives of participants’ families and wider community are also positively affected. They show what is possible when business takes the lead in driving social impact.”

Since 2000, BITCI’s programmes have led to:

  • 207,065 hours of support being given to 6,206 employment programme participants from over 110 countries. 70% of these have secured employment or other positive outcomes.
  • Over 100,000 DEIS students across primary and secondary schools have been supported through BITCI’s nationwide education programmes.

This report through a mixture of videos and case studies of participants clearly illustrates the diversity of those who BITCI supports, the skills they have gained, their desire to succeed and the benefits to the companies involved.

Ms O’ Sullivan added “As we look to the future, we remain committed to deepening our impact, strengthening partnerships, and advocating for inclusive practices that leaves no one behind.”
