BITCI hosted Nature Masterclass at Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine
Business in the Community Ireland (BITCI) hosted a dedicated Nature Masterclass on June 23rd, bringing together member companies from across the Munster region to deepen their understanding of biodiversity and explore practical actions businesses can take to protect and restore nature.
The event took place at Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine’s Ringaskiddy facility, a site that has implemented an impressive suite of biodiversity enhancement projects. J&J has opened its grounds to fellow BITCI members, offering a bespoke peer learning opportunity to see first-hand how a large industrial campus can successfully integrate nature-positive initiatives
Participants toured the site’s native wildlife meadows, wetland, pollinator trail, solitary beehives, native hedgerows and other habitat-enhancing features, gaining insight into how similar actions can be applied across their own operations.
The Masterclass also featured guest speaker Jim Wilson, renowned Cork-based ornithologist, author, and educator. Jim shared practical guidance on how companies across the Cork Harbour area can support local wildlife and contribute to strengthening regional biodiversity. His expertise will help businesses understand the tangible steps they can take to make a measurable difference.
The event demonstrated the power of BITCI’s Munster network to inspire sustainability practitioners and spark collaboration.
Cillian McMahon, Senior Sustainability Adviser at BITCI said “We are seeing a greater appetite from BITCI member companies to understand more about biodiversity, assess their business’s impact on and dependencies on nature, and take remedial action accordingly. Member companies also have a better understanding of the physical risks associated with nature loss and the regulatory pressure from legislation such as the EU Nature Restoration Law. Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine has proactively developed an Action Plan with tangible measures to protect the biodiversity of their site. The sharing of the lessons learnt and results achieved will help ensure other Munster-based members can take similar action”.
The Nature Masterclass forms part of BITCI’s broader mission to support companies in embedding sustainability – climate, nature and social inclusion- into their core business operations.
